Katharine moved from Big Island and joined the Maui art community in 1999. “I wanted to meet Maui artists and take advantage of the all the wonderful classes offered by local artists and visiting artists from the mainland. Living close to the Hui No’eau gave me the opportunity to take classes in life drawing, oil, watercolors, and printmaking."
"Maui offered many unique diverse climates and vistas for an artist, which fueled my passion for figure drawing, painting flowers, sunsets and seascapes. In the nineties I visited Monet’s garden at Giverny. I was inspired to plant my own garden and fill it with roses, day lilies, hydrangeas, azaleas, poppies, irises, daisies, heather, gardenias and bachelor buttons. I also enjoy painting natives like koa, kukui and ohia trees, pohinahina, ilima, a’alii and a variety of Hawaiian ferns."
Katharine practiced Chiropractic for forty years and received her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology in 1980. Since that time she has practiced body orientated counseling. “I’ve taken many art therapy classes which has benefited me personally as well as professionally. To me, art and art therapy and experiential painting are all powerful tools for transformation.”
“I enjoy experimenting and use a variety of media such as oil, watercolor, pastel, charcoal, pen and ink. I have had the pleasure to study with many talented Maui artists George Allan, Connie Adams, Carmen Gardener, Richard Nelson, Tony Walholm, Jaisey Hanlon, Lee Shapiro and Paul Mullowney. I also have had the great fortune to study with Kevin MacPherson, Plein Air (oil painter), Roger Witlock and Timothy Clark(watercolorists).
“I enjoy the diversity and the uniqueness of Maui art and artists. I feel blessed to live on Maui, where light and color are brillant and full.”
